There have been many urban legends surrounding videogames over the years, but none quite so scary as Misfortune. There are many reasons for this too. Misfortune is not available or even heard of! And the scariest part? YOU MIGHT ALREADY OWN IT!
As hard as it may be to believe, MISFORTUNE is actually secretly hidden in OTHER games cartridges! But not just any, only certain games contain it and finding it is near impossible. This is a remarkable discovery first identified by Steve Randall in 2003. He discovered that certain actions taken within certain games or sequences of choices in a particular order would occasionally, on certain games, warp the person playing to a wierd new game. This was the discovery of Misfortune.
That is not even as bad as it gets. When the game is discovered, the players on screen counterpart is faced by a demonic looking sprite which claims that it exists "within the fabric of reality" and asks you if you want to challenge him. Choosing yes takes you to wierd levels full of death traps and puzzles and if you make a SINGLE mistake, you could actually DIE in REAL LIFE. I know it all sounds like hocus pocus but apparently this does happen to some people upon failing at Misfortune and the reason is because of its GAME OVER music score. It was designed in such a way that it affects the mind and causes depression, illness and even suicide. There is even a science to support this!!
Like the famous urban legend Sonic.exe, the gameover screen for Misfortune contains a picture of the demon that reads "I AM GOD HERE" in bloody text while it plays that terrifying music.
Obviously the name MISFORTUNE was given to it by people who discovered it, as the actual game has no title but the game seems to be hidden in more that one official Gameboy game. Why it's there, nobody knows. Who made it nobody knows. Is it even man made? One thing for sure it's scary as Hell!
We have a few screenshots from the game to share! Enjoy!
